The Long County High School softball team claimed a 6-5 win over Brunswick in a scrimmage Tuesday at Ludowici.
Lady Tide starting pitcher Emily Hester went four innings in notching the win, and Harley Dawson closed out the game, earning a save.
Dawson also led the team at the plate, going 2 for 2 with a home run and two RBIs. The Lady Tide’s Cat Wingate also batted 2 for 2, while Kaylyn McEwin was 1 for 2 with two RBIs.
Long County head coach Brian Thomas said his team made a few early season mistakes, but he was pleased with the performance.
“We still had several correctable mistakes that come early in the season, but we were happy to play pretty good,” he said.
Today and Saturday, the Lady Tide will compete in the Softball in the Swamp tournament in Nahunta. At 5:30 p.m. today, they take on Glynn County and play Bleckley County at
7 p.m.
At 9 a.m. Saturday, the Tide face Charlton County and may play Saturday afternoon, depending on how they fare in their first three games.
Thomas said that these contests will help his team prepare for the upcoming season and that the players are excited to be playing in a tournament.
“We want to see some good pitching and good competition — and now, we finally have something to play for,” he said.
