Lady Tigers fall in Statesboro

The Bradwell Institute Lady Tigers fell to the Statesboro High Lady Blue Devils, 10-6, in a Region 3-AAAAA makeup game Saturday in Statesboro.

The Lady Tigers took the first lead of the game, scoring two runs in the first inning. But the Lady Devils took advantage of two wild pitches by Bradwell’s Mackenzie Stewart.

In the bottom of the second inning, the Lady Blue Devils scored three runs off two singles to take a 5-2 lead and scored another run In the fourth.

The Lady Tigers came to life in the top of the fifth inning, scoring two runs to close the gap. However, the Lady Blue Devils added more runs later on a passed ball and error and a two-run single to go up, 10-4.

At the top of the sixth inning, Bradwell scored a run on a ground out by Miracle Fata. The Lady Tigers then scored a run off a wild pitch. But the Lady Devils’ defense shut down BI.

Lady Tiger Shania Eldridge led the girls going 2 for 4 with two singles and one run scored. Tamia Johnson was 1 for 3 with one RBI. Jakaria was 1 for 4 and scored one run. Kayleen Pixley was 1 for 3 with one RBI. Kaylee Taylor scored two runs, and Fata had one RBI.

Stewart pitched five innings, tossing two strikeouts and walking one. She gave up 11 hits and eight runs, of which five were earned. Pixley pitched one inning, walked three and gave up two runs.

The Lady Tigers were 4-19 overall and 0-7 in region play after Saturday’s action. Monday’s region game at Richmond Hill was postponed due to rain.
