Hosting their first region game of the season, the Lady Tigers squeezed in a victory in game one of a double-header at home yesterday against the Lady Knights of Windsor Forest, winning 13-8.

By the third inning, the Lady
Tigers held an 8-3 lead.

"We anticipated our girls hitting," Lady Tiger softball coach Sharyl Eastlake said. "That’s all we’ve been concentrating on in practice. We’ve been hitting soccer balls and hitting every day in practice, so we expected them to come out strong and of course they did. But we didn’t want to run rule them we wanted to play."

Eastlake said the Lady Knights’ senior pitcher didn’t seem too strong and she thought her Tiger squad might run rule Windsor Forest based on what she’s seen at practice.

"I told our girls to hold back," she said. "So, we got ahead and we were up by 8 and I held them back. But I won’t do that again."

The Lady Knights started a rally and came within 2 runs by the fifth inning (7-9). Eastlake said they motioned the squad to hit.

In the fifth inning Lady Tigers Danielle Durham and Tiara Howard were on base and Karson Rogers slugged a double to bring both girls home and go up 11-7. In the sixth inning Lady Tiger Barbara Rego hit a triple and the Lady Tigers went up 13-7.

The Lady Knights added a run in the top of the seventh inning but the Lady Tiger defense sealed the win for game one.

Eastlake said her squad did well but they still have an issue in shaking off the bad plays and moving on.

"One girl makes a defensive error; she turns around and doesn’t pay attention to what is going on with the base runners," she said. "And of course they gain another bag that way. That’s how they scored a run on us."

The Lady Tigers were going to try and get game two in before the afternoon showers hit. The Courier will bring you the results of that game as they become available.
