Liberty claims five seconds at track sectionals

The Liberty County boys track team had four second-place finishes and the girls team claimed one at the Class AAA sectionals, held at Kinnett Stadium in Columbus.

James Summersett placed second in the 200-meter dash at 22.48 seconds, and the boys 4x200 relay team was second with a time of 1:29.22. Isaac Vanduynhoven was second in the pole vault at 11 feet, 6 inches, and Devereaux Benoit took second in the discus at 146-8. 

Xavier Lyons took third in the 400 at 50.27, Jamar Joseph was fourth in the 300 hurdles at 41.39 and Summersett finished fifth in the 100. The boys 4x100 relay team took fourth place in 42.59 seconds and the 4x400 relay team was fourth at 3:28.89. Benoit added a fourth-place finish in the shot put.

Javon Brown was sixth in the pole vault. Joseph also finished seventh in the 110 hurdles, and Markel Aside was seventh in the triple jump. Keyshawn Hollis was eighth in the 100 meters. 

Riniya Roberts led the Lady Panthers with a second-place finish in the pole vault, topping out at 8 feet. 

Zy’Kira Anderson finished third in the triple jump for the Liberty girls, with a best of 34-5.25, and was fifth in the long jump. Jaidyn Hayes was third in the shot put at 33-4.5, a half-inch in front of teammate Kirah Smiley, and fourth in the discus at 111-10. 

The 4x100 relay team took fourth with a time of 50.08 seconds. 

Nya Telfair was sixth in the 100 hurdles, Isabelle Melendez was seventh in the high jump and TyAsia Thomas was seventh in the discus.
