Lightning forced game two of a doubleheader to be called Friday. Wayne County had already shut out the Panthers 10-0 in game one and were up 11-1 in game two before Mother Nature halted play.
In game one, Yellow Jacket pitcher J.D. Paul tossed nine strikeouts and gave up only two hits, to Aric Albertson and Hunter Miller in the four-inning shutout. Vincent Brunelli took the loss, walking four and striking out two Yellow Jackets.
In game two, Albertson scored the Panthers’ lone run. The Yellow Jackets scored one in the first, four in the second, one in the third and five in the fifth inning to take the 11-1 lead.
Liberty County will play at Savannah Christian at 5 p.m. Tuesday. The Panthers are 13-5 overall and 6-4 in Region 3-AAAA.
