Liberty opens playoffs today

Liberty County opens softball state-tournament play today against Mary Persons starting at 4:30 p.m. at home.

The first two games of the best-of-three series will be today. If a third game is needed, it will be at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.

The Bulldogs, out of Region 2-AAAA, come into the postseason with an 18-10 overall record and 11-2 mark in the region. According to MaxPreps.com, Mary Persons scored 161 runs (5.75 per game) and allowed 73 runs (2.61).

The Bulldogs had an 11-game winning streak at one point this season.

Meanwhile, the Lady Panthers (11-11, 7-3) scored 117 runs (5.3 per game) and allowed 80 (3.63).
