Liberty takes two at Boro tourney

Liberty County High School’s boys’ basketball team won its first two games in the Gentlemen’s Classic Tournament last weekend in Statesboro.
Last Friday, the Panthers toppled Westside High, 92-46.
According to stats posted on maxpreps.com, LCHS’ Richard LeCounte nearly had a triple-double with 13 points, 12 rebounds and nine assists and was picked as the player of the game. His highly touted teammate, point guard Davion Mitchell, scored a game-high 32 points.
Panther Milik Wallace chipped in 18, and Tyriq Reece scored 10. Jishaun Harris and Tyler Thomas each added six points, Comer Kite scored five and Tyreon Freeman added two.
Wallace sank two 3-pointers, while LeCounte, Mitchell and Kite each sank one 3-pointer.
On Saturday, the Panthers defeated Jenkins County, 78-42, in another lopsided matchup. The final shooting stats had not been posted as of press time.
LCHS was scheduled to play Osborne High on Monday to close out tournament play. Results were unavailable at press time.
In other local basketball news, Bradwell Institute started tournament play at the Joe Greene Classic on Monday in Savannah. The Tigers were set to play against New Hampstead. On Tuesday, they take were scheduled to play Beach High.
Results from those games will be online once they become available.
