Liberty County High School alum Aaron Bennett claimed the title in the men’s shot put at the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference track and field championships last week in Rock Hill, S.C., according to Tuskegee University’s athletic website.
On his first throw of the day, Bennett threw the shot 14.54 meters, which outdistanced runner-up Javonte Brooks-Brown (14.15) from Kentucky State (14.15) and third-place Jamal Quadir of Albany State (13.84).
Bennett, who competed in football and track at LCHS, started his Golden Tiger career as a defensive lineman when he and his brother, Trier, signed football scholarships more than four years ago. After his senior football season was complete, Aaron Bennett joined the track team.
Bennett’s younger brother, Jovan, will enter his senior year as a Tuskegee football player next season.
The Bennetts were the first three brothers on the same team at the same time in college football in America, according to the school’s media guide.
Bennett’s younger sister Courtney Bennett signed a track scholarship with Jacksonville state University on Monday. The senior Lady Panther is a shot put and discus champion.
