All*Stars eighth-graders win league, eye national tourney
summer league
Scotts All*Stars eighth-grade boys basketball team won the South Georgia Basketball League on June 19 in Savannah, giving the team an undefeated season in league play.

The Scott’s All*Stars eighth-grade boys’ basketball team won the South Georgia Basketball League Championship by defeating the Carolina Ballers, 46-43, on June 19 at Johnson High School in Savannah.
Marcus Scott V hit a late 3-pointer to clinch the victory and complete the team’s undefeated season in league.
“Although we played sluggish, we pulled out the victory because we learned how to win,” SAS founder and coach Marcus Scott IV. “Last year, we lost 10 games by less than three points. This year, although we have not had many close games, we have been a lot better finishing games.”
William Richardson, who led the team in scoring, was named the league’s most valuable player. Marcus Scott V was named to the league’s first team as a top-five player.
“It was a total team effort, but it’s always good to see our kids get recognized for their individual efforts,” Scott IV said.
The eighth-grade team has won 23 games in a row and six championships this season en route to a 40-5 record.
The team’s next tournament will be the AAU Division I Nationals, held July 10-20 in Orlando.
“Going to Nationals is always a great experience for the kids,” coach Scott said. “Although we will not have the size that many teams have at Nationals this year, I believe we have five guards that may be the best in the state.”
The team will hold a car wash from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday at the VFW, 931 E.G. Miles Parkway in Hinesville, to raise funds for the trip. To donate, go to www.scottsallstars.com.
