The Long County High School Alumni Association held its annual golf tournament May 18 at the Cherokee Rose Golf Course in Hinesville.
Dale and Beverly Rowe won the first flight, and Robert Waters and Mike Wilson won the second flight.
Anthony and Toby Howard in the first flight and Darrell Ballance and Tim Blanton in the second flight were runners-up.
The annual two-person scramble tourney raises funds to help the Long County School System. Since the tournament’s inception, the organization has provided 45 $500 scholarships to graduating seniors. This year, six athletes were awarded one scholarship apiece: Jamaal Anderson, Erica Golden, Like Golden, David Gilmore III, Jacob Turner and Shavonta Turner.
In addition to scholarships, the association has made several purchases to help the school system. Purchases have included signs for Blakely Thornton Gym and Raymond I. Fulcher Baseball Field, books for the media center at Smiley Elementary School, a video camera and a covered trailer for Walker Middle School, an air conditioner for a special-needs school bus, uniforms for the softball teams and equipment for the golf team.
LCSS Board of Education Chairwoman Janet Watford encouraged all Long County alumni to join the association. Those interested can contact Darrell Ballance, Gene Davis, Steven Moore or Watford on Facebook or email longcountyalumni@gmail.com.
