Rodney Hawkins scored 30 points to help Bradwell grab its third win of the week, a 67-46 dismantling of short-handed Long County on Saturday in Hinesville.

"You know, everyone talks about taking games one at a time, but I think the boys have been thinking about tonight’s rematch with Long County ever since we lost at their place," Bradwell coach Pete Woodard said. "This is a pretty good rivalry and everyone knows each other and neither team wants to lose."

The Tigers came out of the gate quickly, establishing a 7-3 lead after 3-pointers from Deon Craig and Hawkins. Long County was without five members of its team due to suspensions after a fight in the Tide’s win against Brantley County.

Still, both teams played at a break-neck pace as BI took a 19-15 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Long County continued a flying tempo using its guards to score off the dribble. Bradwell also played fast, which resulted in turnovers. The Tide was able to regain control of the game, scoring in transition off of Bradwell miscues.

"We were trying to move the ball too fast and our turnovers allowed Long County to stay in the game," Woodard said.

Clinging to a 31-27 lead at the half, Woodard implored his team to slow down the ball but still play with the same intensity the team showed early.

"We told them at the half that we had to slow down the basketball. We had to slow the game down and start looking for easy looks that we were able to get in the middle of the lane with the high post," he said. "We have been such a guard-oriented offense we haven’t always looked for the open high post but finding the open man there gives us some good looks at the basket."

Bradwell moved to 6-17 overall and is 5-11 in Region 3-AAAAA. The Tigers were scheduled to play host to Savannah High on Tuesday night in the final regular season game.

"We are just going to take it one game at a time. Savannah is a good team. Against a team like that it comes down who has more intangibles," Woodard said.
