Surrounded by family and friends at the Liberty County High School media center, five Liberty County High School student-athletes penned their names to letters of intent during National Signing Day on Wednesday.

Tucory Rhodes, Jordan Harper, Jovan Bennett and Tavoris Lewis signed to play football. Jana Jones signed a track letter of intent.

Rhodes, a multi-sport athlete at LCHS, will play at Albany State where he will transition from a linebacker to a cornerback or free safety. Harper will move from the offensive line position to tight end as he joins the Eagles of Carson Newman.

Lewis, who played on both sides of the ball at Liberty, will head to Valdosta State. He said the coaches there are looking at him as a free safety.

Bennett will play at Tuskegee. He said he is looking forward to joining his brothers and becoming the Tigers’ center.

Jones is headed to the University of Louisiana on a track scholarship. Jones was the Class AAA state champion in the discus after she threw a distance of 123 feet, eight inches at the 2010 state meet.

She also threw the shot put 33 feet, three and a half inches at the Georgia Junior Olympics Championships last summer.
