Long County High School’s baseball team began the Region 2-AA portion of its schedule on Tuesday, facing Jeff Davis in Hazelhurst.

The Blue Tide take on Tattnall County on Friday.

"Our second week of the season itself presents different challenges," Long County coach Brian Thomas said. "(Jeff Davis and Tattnall County) are both great teams that will be very well coached. We are looking forward to those challenges and competing with some of the best teams in our region."

Long County (1-2) also gets a rematch with Bryan County High School. The Redskins improved to 2-1 on Monday with a 9-8 win against Liberty County. Last week, the Redskins beat the Blue Tide, 3-2, in Pembroke.

"Bryan played a great game against us, making no errors in the field and getting a good pitching performance," Thomas said.

Nick Moody went 2 for 4 and Chris Stock was 2 for 3 for Long County. Shawn Mills took the loss.

On Friday, the Tide scored four runs in the fifth inning to beat Windsor Forest, 6-4, in Savannah.

Jacob Turner picked up the win, while Mills bounced back from Thursday’s loss to earn his first save of the season.

Clint Kennedy went 3 for 4, Chris Stock was 1 for 3 with a double and both Luke Golden and Brandon McManus were 1 for 3.

The first pitch in Thursday’s Bryan County game is set for 5:45 p.m. at Long County. Friday’s contest against Tattnall County begins at 6 p.m.
