The Long County High School baseball team picked up its second win of the year Thursday, defeating Bryan County in Pembroke 10-4.
With the win the Blue Tide improved to 2-1 while Redskins fell to 0-2. Picking up the win for Ludowici was Cody Fleck, who allowed only one earned run and two total in five innings. In addition to being solid on the mound, Fleck also made a great defensive play.
“Cody made a great diving tag on a runner trying to score on a suicide squeeze bunt attempt,” Blue Tide head coach Brian Thomas said.
Long County’s leading hitters were Luke Golden, who went 2-4 with two RBIs, John Christianson, 2-4 with a double, and Austin Middleton, 1-3.
Tuesday, Long County was back at home, taking on Jeff Davis County in their first Region 2-AA game of the year. Results were not available by press time, but will be in this Friday’s Courier. On Thursday, the Tide have a rematch with Bryan and Thomas expects the Indians to be prepared.
“I expect Bryan County to be tough and come over here and give us the best game that they have. They are well-coached by Coach (Anthony) Dragon and I have a ton of respect for them and their program,” Thomas said.
The first pitch will be thrown at 5:45 p.m.
