Diamond Panthers top Tigers

Liberty County High School diamond boys held off the Bradwell Tigers baseball team Friday on Panther field. The Panthers won 9-4 in a non-region contest.
While the game gives the winner bragging rights, Tiger coach Rhett Hellgren said it was a good matchup to prepare his team for the upcoming Region 3B-AAAAA games.
“We played well, but we had five errors and too many pop-ups,” he said. “We have to use these games as opportunities to get ready for the region games and we have to be able to put the ball in play by then. We have to keep the ball on the ground and in play.”
The game gives the Tigers a 1-1 record. The Bradwell boys were to play another local opponent Saturday, Long County High School. The game was rescheduled from last week because of rain. Hellgren said the next two games will get his team ready for Effingham County.
Effingham County will be the Tigers’ first region matchup next Friday at 6 p.m. at home. The Panthers are 3-1 on the season and will host Bryan County Wednesday at 6 p.m.
