Former BI jumper advances

Former Bradwell Institute track jumper Larry Henry, currently a junior at Troy (Ala.) University, has qualified to compete at the NCAA East Preliminary Track Meet on May 24-26 in Jacksonville, according to a news report on the university’s athletic website.
Henry was one of seven Troy track members who qualified for the meet, which takes place on the campus of North Florida University.
Coming off a championship jump of 2.11 meters in the high jump at the Sun Belt Conference Outdoor Championships last week in Lafayette, La., Henry will compete at the NCAA East Preliminary with a seed mark of 2.13 meters. He is ranked 33rd in the NCAA East Division I Region in the high jump.
Earlier this season, he placed sixth at the Louisiana Classic with a jump of 2 meters. He placed second at the Georgia Classics with a distance of 1.95 meters, and at the Tiger Classic in Auburn, Henry placed third in the high jump with a distance of 2.07 meters.
As a sophomore, Henry hit a personal best at the Coach “O” Invitational (2.07 meters) in Troy and placed first at the South Alabama Invitational (2.03 meters) in Mobile. He also had a personal best in the triple jump at the South Alabama Invitational with a distance of 13.80 meters.
Henry competed in his freshman season in the triple and high jump, winning the high jump at the South Alabama Invitational (2.03 meters). He won the high jump at the Coach “O” Invitational, placed second at the Southern Mississippi Invitational in Hattiesburg, Miss., and second at the Morehouse Relays in Atlanta.
Henry was a three-year letter winner as a BI Tiger and graduated as an honor student. He is the son of Michelle Harris and Larry Henry Sr.
