Junior golf tournaments coming

Entries are now being accepted for both the 49th annual Georgia Junior Championship and the 35th edition of the Georgia Girls’ Championship. The junior boys will travel south to Brunswick Country Club, while the junior girls will head to The Standard Club in Johns Creek. Both events will take place June 16-18.
The Junior Championship is open to male amateur golfers between the ages of 14 and 17. Entrants must be at least 14 years old on or before June 16 and must not have turned 18 before June 18.
The format is 54 holes of individual stroke play with the field cut to the low 70 players and ties and anyone within 10 strokes of the leader after 36 holes. The field will consist of 144 players with the lowest USGA Handicap Indexes.
Last year, Marcus Byrd of Dunwoody made his par putt on the final hole at The Farm in Rocky Face to clinch the Georgia Junior Championship with a 1-under-par 215 score.
The Girls’ Championship is open to female amateur golfers between the ages of 9 and 18. Entrants must be at least 9 years old on or before June 16 and must not have turned 19 or be enrolled in college before June 18.
The format is 54 holes of individual flighted stroke play and players must walk and carry their own clubs. The field is comprised of 144 players.
In 2013, Bailey Tardy of Norcross carded a steady 1-under-par 71 in the final round at Atlanta Athletic Club in Johns Creek to win the Georgia Girls’ Championship with a 6-under-par 210 54-hole score.
Eligible players must enter online at the GSGA website (www.gsga.org) by clicking the Event Registration link. The deadline for entry for both events is Wednesday, May 28.
