The Long County 10-and-under all-star baseball team won the Georgia Recreation Parks Association Class C state championship on Friday in Blakely, sweeping the tourney field and outscoring their opponents, 55-6.
Long County began the week by beating host county Blakely-Early, 15-5, on Tuesday. On Wednesday, Long County manhandled Tallapoosa, 14-1.
In Thursday’s semifinal, Long County thumped Putnam County, 12-0.  In the championship game, a rematch of the semifinal, Long County downed Putnam, 14-0, to win the tourney.
Recreation department director Henry Strickland said that the boys winning the title was, in itself, a great accomplishment, but that it was even sweeter for this group because this was the first year Long County played live-pitch baseball in the 10-and-under age division.
In previous years, he said, they played using a pitching machine.
Long County also won the district title in Ludowici.
Team members were Jake Cooper, Blake Holland, Zachary Swindell, Dewayne Rowe, Kaleb Jones, Joseph Cammack, Alex Ashley, Cole Moss, Daniel Edwards, Giovanni Jackson, Noah Kuhaneck and Luke Hendrix.
The team was coached by Tommy Holland, Joey Edwards, John Kuhaneck and Dean Cammack.
