The Long County Middle School soccer team became the first squad in the county’s history to win a region championship by defeating Martha Puckett, 2-1, on March 29 in Jesup.
The win was especially sweet to Long County, because, last year, Martha Puckett beat them in overtime to win the title. The Long County Wildcats finished the year with an 11-1 record. Their two-year record is 23-3.
“This year was great,” coach Reggie Wilkes said. “We had nine players move up to the high school from last year’s team, six start as freshmen, so we thought we would be in a rebuilding year, but this group worked hard and played together to bring home Long County’s first soccer region championship.”
Team members are Abner Rodriguez, Mark Rosas, Alberto Duenes, Joey Quadalupe, Christian Bass, Braden Buhoveckey, Jamel Sloan, Armand Orozco, Alex Maldanado, Conor Brant, Abel Cruz, Jacinto Cruz, Paul Cruz, Hunter Bennett and Estreberto Garcia.
