The Blue Tide play their first home game under head coach Ron Flott tonight. Perhaps appropriately, it’s against Flott’s old team, the Southeast Bulloch Yellow Jackets.
Flott coached SEB from 1997-2005 and compiled a 49-43 record.
Though the Yellow Jackets, like the Blue Tide, have struggled in recent years, Flott said Southeast Bulloch will be ready to play.
“Pat Collins does a great job every year and Southeast Bulloch will be much improved,” Flott said.
Both teams are 0-1. Southeast Bulloch is coming off a disappointing 9-0 shutout at the hands of Portal High School, while Long County is coming off a tough 28-21 loss to Bryan
County.
When the two teams met last year, the Yellow Jackets won, 23-12.
This match also will include the first game-time ringing of the Blue Tide Bell.
The bell, which was donated to the school by Jan and Ron Johnson, will be rung by a different guest of honor at each home game.
That guest will ring the bell as Blue Tide players run on to the field and then every time the team scores.
The Johnsons will be the first guests of honor to ring the Blue Tide Bell, with Jan Johnson having the honors at 7 p.m. in a special ceremony. The game kicks off at 7:30 p.m.
