The Region 3A-AAAA contest was in Guyton.
The Lady Panthers also earned a win against the Lady Mustangs, avenging a loss earlier this season. The girls won 51-45.
The final official stats had not been posted by press time but Lady Panther Tia Fleming paced the girls with 12 points. Bryonna Graham scored 10 points.
The win for the Lady Panthers is a boost for the Liberty girls. They hold a 12-10 overall mark and a 3-2 Region 3A-AAAA record. The Lady Mustangs held a 4-0 region record until Friday’s loss to Liberty. They still top the sub-region at 4-1 and they are 18-4 overall.
In the boys’ contest, Liberty went on a quick run in the first quarter but the Mustangs quickly answered and trailed 16-13. Liberty regained the edged when they outscored the Mustangs 25-17 in the second quartet to be up 41-30 at the half.
The teams traded net for net in the third. The Panthers extended the eight-point lead to 13 by the close of the third.
The Mustangs again regained composure and chipped away at Liberty’s lead. But the Panthers managed the clock and denied the Mustangs a final chance to make a run at the end.
The Liberty boys are 16-6 overall and 4-1 in the region tied at first with Statesboro in the sub-region standings.
They play next Friday in their final region game at Wayne County. The boys’ individual stats were not available by press time.
