Pierce County swept host Long County on Saturday in a Region 2-AA basketball doubleheader in Ludowici.
In the boys’ game, the Bears pulled away in the fourth quarter to win 74-66.
Jamal Anderson scored 26 points for the Blue Tide, who led through the first three quarters. Akeem Boyd and Jaylan Futch added nine and eight points, respectively. Scott Jernigan paced Pierce County with 25 points.
Long County dropped to 8-12 overall and 6-7 in Region 2-AA. The Blue Tide are now fifth in the standings in the region.
In the girls’ contest, Pierce County ran away with a 45-19 win.
Erin Rozier and Christine Braddy had 12 and 11 points, respectively, for Pierce County.
Miranda McDowell led Long County with 12 points while Jameka Boyd chipped in with four. The Lady Tide dropped to 1-19 overall and 1-14 in the region.
Long County plays host to Brantley County on Friday. The girls’ contest tips off at 6:30 p.m. and the boys’ game follows. During the game, the 2011 LCHS homecoming king will be crowned.
