Coastal Crew Rebels
hosting tryouts next week
The St. James Coastal Crew Rebels will host tryouts for their eighth- and seventh-grade teams next week at the St. James Sports Center. Eighth-grade tryouts are 4:30-6:30 p.m. Monday. Tryouts for Seventh-grade tryouts will be 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, March 6, and Wednesday, March 13.

Relay for Life
bowling tournament
Marne Lanes is hosting the Relay For Life Bowling tournament benefitting the American Cancer Society beginning at 1 p.m. March 9. The entry fee is $25 per person and sign-up begins promptly at noon. Prizes will be awarded for first-place team, individual high score, doubles high score and lowest score.

Annual bowling tourney
set on Fort Stewart
Fort Stewart’s USBC Bowling Association annual teams and doubles championship tournament will take place April 6-7 at Marne Lanes.
Teams for the tournament consist of four bowlers in any combination and will compete from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. April 6. The doubles tournament will compete 10 a.m.-1 p.m. April 7. There will be two handicap-scoring divisions.

John E. Smiley Memorial Golf Tournament is April 20
The fifth annual John E. Smiley Memorial Golf Tournament is scheduled for 9 a.m. April 20, at the Cherokee Rose Country Club in Hinesville. The entry fee is $50 per person and the format is a four-person scramble.
Registration begins at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. this year’s tournament will benefit Micah Smiley, a 6-year-old diagnosed with a rare form of lymphoblastic T-cell lymphoma.

Third annual all-star
game set for Saturday
The third annual middle-school/freshman/sophomore all-star game will be at noon Saturday at Midway Middle School. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for children. Children younger than 5 are admitted free.
The girls’ middle-school games tip off at 1 p.m., the boys’ games are at 2:30 p.m., and the freshman/sophomore games will follow. For more information, call Chris Stacy at 912-695-0481.
 
Third annual Pitch for a Cure softball tournament
Georgia Power is hosting its third annual Pitch for a Cure softball tournament Saturday, March 23, at James Brown Park in Hinesville.

Georgia Southern football
Georgia Southern’s football team  will be back on the banks of “Beautiful Eagle Creek” for the first spring practice of 2013. The Eagles’ schedule begins with two practices Wednesday, March 13, and Thursday, March 14, prior to the start of spring break, with the remaining 13 dates afterward.
After returning from the nine-day break, Georgia Southern has three straight weeks of Tuesday-Thursday-Friday practices with a single Monday date April 1.
Scrimmages are set for each of the two Saturdays leading up to the annual Blue-White Spring Game at 1 p.m. April 13 at Allen E. Paulson Stadium.
Practices begin after a stretching period at 3:45 p.m. Dates, times and locations are subject to change and may be impacted by weather conditions.
Practices are open to the public, but any filming, recording or photography is limited to members of the media only.

LCRD youth baseball, softball and T-ball
  The Liberty County Recreation Department will accept registrations for youth baseball, softball and T-ball programs through March 15.  
  These programs are for boys and girls ages 4 and older.  Participants must attain the age of 4 prior to May 1, 2013.  
  Teams will be formed at Joseph Miller Park, Briar Bay Park, Hillery Park and Gum Branch Park if there are a sufficient number of participants.
  Volunteer coaches are needed for all teams.  Training will be provided.
  Online registration can be done at www.lcrd.net. Registration also can be done at the LCRD office from 10 a.m.-
6 p.m. Monday-Friday.
  Cost is $20 per child.

  The Liberty County Recreation Department will accept team entries in March for 2013 adult softball programs.   Divisions for men’s and women’s teams are open, church, co-ed (church and open), industrial and 40-over.

  The Liberty County Recreation Department is accepting applications for officials and scorekeepers for T-ball, softball and baseball programs.
