Liberty County High School’s Shadrach Thornton recently was named the 2011 Region 2A-AAAA Player of the Year.
Thornton was one of several Liberty County football players named to the all-region team, according to offensive coordinator Ryan Glazer.
Thornton ran for 1,738 yards, 17 touchdowns and three two-point conversions in his senior year while also catching six passes for 58 yards and completing 17 of 45 passes for 248 yards, two touchdowns and a two-point conversion.
During his four-year career, Thornton tallied 4,345 yards on 726 carries during 34 games. He had 22 100-yard games and 45 touchdowns.
He also tallied 303 yards on 25 receptions in high school and was 25 of 61 in passing for 338 yards with three touchdowns and a pair of two-point conversions.
Thornton was a Coastal Courier Player of the Week selection three times this season and recently was honored as the Coastal Courier Player of the Year.
He verbally committed to North Carolina State.
Anthony Dabson, Melvin King and Raekwon McMillan were named to the first-team defense. McMillan led the Liberty County defense this season with 97 tackles. Dabson had 72, and King tallied 65 this year. Dabson led the squad in sacks with 10, King had two and McMillan had one.
The three players also were recent winners of the Coastal Courier Player of the Week.
