Long County High School will be looking to continue its upward swing in football when the Blue Tide open the 2013 regular season Aug. 30, according to the team’s recently released tentative schedule.
After posting a 5-5 overall mark and going 4-5 in Region 2-AA, Long County is saddling up for another season under third-year coach Ron Flott. He took over the team in 2011 and, within one season, turned a winless team into a competitive squad during a time when region realignments meant the team faced tougher opponents.
The Blue Tide is looking for a better season this year and has posted their schedule, which starts with an away scrimmage Aug. 16 at Montgomery.
The Tide open the regular season Aug. 30 at Lanier High School, with their first home game and region matchup coming Sept. 6 against Benedictine. The remainder of the season will be region games for the Tide: Sept. 13 at Vidalia, Sept. 20 vs. Atkinson, Sept. 27 at Bryan County and Oct. 4 vs. Bacon County.
The Blue Tide has a bye week during the week of Oct. 11. They return to action Oct. 18 at Toombs County and host Jeff Davis for their homecoming game Oct. 25.
Long on Nov. 1 will be in Darien to play McIntosh County Academy before holding senior night Nov. 8 against Metter.
