The Long County Blue Tide beat the Liberty County Panthers 3-0 on Thursday, March 30 in a key region game.

Tide starting pitcher Giovanni Jackson hit the first Panthers batter but then picked off that runner. Jackson was in a two-on, two-out jam after two walks before he closed the inning with a strikeout.

With runners on second and third in the bottom of the first, Landon Runyon drew a walk. The pitch got away from the Panthers catcher and Jackson was caught in a rundown between home plate and third base. He made it safely back to third as a throw got away and took off for home but was caught on the peg to the plate.

With Dawson on board in the second, Roderick Randall hit a rocket on a 3-2 pitch over the left field wall for his first home run of the season and 2-0 Tide lead.

Long County added to the lead in the sixth. Kenny Pickens was hit by a pitch and pinch-runner Steven Wyatt stole second before getting advanced to third on a sacrifice. Wyatt dashed home on a passed ball for the final run.

Jackson, Pickens and Ryder Dawson combined for the shutout. Jackson went the first two innings, Pickens pitched the next four and Dawson closed out the game with an inning of work.

Matt Richardson and Jamison Thomas each had a double for the Panthers, who were held to four hits. Carlos Singleton and D.J. Walker limited the Tide to two hits.

With the win, the Tide move to 12-7 and 4-3 in the region. They face off against the Panthers in the second game of their region series on Friday, March 31, a makeup from Tuesday’s rain cancellation.

Before Thursday’s game, the Tide honored seniors Jackson and Dawson.
