Long County event benefits area liver transplant recipient

The annual Fishin’ for a Cure Pan Fish Tournament was held recently at Nobles Cabin in Long Cabin.
This was the fourth year of the event. Proceeds raised from it help children in southeast Georgia who have some kind of illness or disability.
Each year, there is both an adult and children’s competition.
In this year’s kids’ competition, there was a tie for first place with Mary DeLoach and Tanner DeLoach both catching a fish that weighed in at 1.2 pounds. Caden Driggers finished in second place with a fish weighing 1.12 pounds, Carlee Keith took third place with a weight of 0.98 pounds, Maggie Bowen took fourth place with a weight of 0.92 pounds, and Preston Love rounded out the top five with a weight of 0.90 pounds. Each child received fishing tackle and other prizes.
In the open division, the team of Bobby and Maggie Bowen took the top spot with a combined weight of 20.62 pounds.The team of Duck and Red DeLoach was the runner-up with a combined weight of 17.54 pounds.Taking the third spot was the team of Freddie Hinson and Bart Dutton with a combined weight or 17.52 pounds.
Prize money for first place was $700, second place was $500, and third place was $300.
All three teams donated their winnings to Donald resident Eileen Moody, who is having a liver transplant.
