The Long County Recreation Department was recognized as the District 2 Agency of the Year.
Long County Commissioner Cliff DeLoach accepted the award on Aug. 10 at a state board and recreation parks meeting that was held inJesup. DeLoach said that this was the first time that Long County had ever won the award.
“The recreation department has come a long way from when we just had two baseball fields. This is a direct reflection on our director, the employees, and the recreation board,” said DeLoach.
Recreation department director Henry Strickland echoed DeLoach’s comments but also praised the volunteer coaches, players, and parents who help support the activities and the children.
