Local favorite Dustin McGowan was placed on the disabled list Sunday by the Toronto Blue Jays.

The 28-year-old pitcher from Ludowici has been attempting to come back from a 2008 shoulder injury and subsequent surgery. McGowan made great strides, but slowed down during spring training because of shoulder fatigue.

On Sunday, he joined fellow pitcher Marc Rzepczynski on the team’s 15-day disabled list. However, the team hopes to get McGowan back on the active roster soon. Other Blue Jays on the DL include Jesse Litsch, Scott Richmond and Dirk Hayhurst, all of whom are on the 60-day list.

On Monday, Toronto opened its season against the Texas Rangers. Though the club played well, they lost 5-4. The team plays Texas again today in Arlington.
