Midway resident Sandra Scott has verbally committed to the University of Georgia swim team, according to swimswam.com, a website owned by Universal Sports Network that centers on collegiate and professional swimmers.

According to the article, Scott said she was thrilled and picked UGA because of the combination of amazing athletics and academics.

“The campus was beautiful, and I fell in love with the team and the coaches,” she told swimswam.com. “I couldn’t be happier to become a part of such a fantastic program. I am so grateful for the support of my family, friends and my coach, Bill Forrester, who has always pushed me and motivated me to become better. ”

Scott was featured in the Coastal Courier in August, when she said she was deciding among UGA, Arkansas and TCU.

Scott was a three-time finalist at the 2015 Georgia Senior Long Course State Championships and qualified for Winter Junior Nationals in the 100- and 200-yard freestyles.

With her college choice made Scott is likely to pursue her medical career and a shot to swim for Team USA or Team Finland in the
2020 Olympics.

“My mom is from Finland, and I have a dual citizenship with Finland,” she told the Courier in August.
