The Liberty County Panthers basketball players were honored Wednesday during a team banquet.

According to Panther coach Willie Graham, the squad celebrated its 27-2 overall season and its 11-1 Region 3-AAA record.

Graham praised the whole team for a great season. Awards were given out and the coach said three players received extra accolades for their performances.

Graham said Rion Brown was selected by region coaches as this year’s Region 3-AAA Player of the Year. Brown is headed to the University of Miami. The same selection committee named Tennessee-bound Jordan McRae to the All-Region first team, and Greg Richardson made the All-Region second team.

The Panther coaching staff and players also tapped Brown as the team’s MVP of the year.

Richardson was named the Panther offensive player of the year and McRae is the defensive player of the year.

Brown and McRae were again recognized for setting school records.

McRae holds the Panthers’ record for points, posting 1,443 in a three-year span. Brown holds the record for a single-game high of 42 points and the single-season record of 660 points.
