Liberty County hosted Pierce County in Region 2-AAA basketball Friday. The Lady Panthers allowed a second half comeback to lose to the Lady Bears 50-39. The Panthers dominated the Bears winning 82-38.

The Liberty girls were up by 10 (27-17) at the half. But the Lady Bears held Liberty to only five points in the third quarter and seven in the fourth. And Pierce poured in 31 points in the half, led by Keara Clark with 22 points.

Liberty was led by Jasmine Brooks with 11 points. The Lady Panthers are 3-6 overall and 1-1 in the region.

The Panthers took the court and were up 15-5 halfway through the first quarter and never turned back. The game started with Will Richardson going 2 for 2 at the line when Pierce was tagged with a technical before tip-off.

Panther coach Julian Stokes said the Bears were penalized for dunking the ball during warmup drills.
And for the Bears things didn’t get any better.

Panther Davion Mitchell used his speed to control the ball and set up the offense. He delivered the ball to his playmakers. The Bears, knowing the Auburn commit can shoot well, played Mitchell man-on-man, leaving the floor open for Richardson to run his game.
Richardson plowed through the Bears’ defense and used every opportunity to hit 3 pointers, layups and put-backs, leading the Panthers in scoring with 43 points. Mitchell had 15.

The boys are 9-5 overall and 3-1 in region action.
The Liberty girls are set to play at Camden County at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday. Both teams will host Tattnall County Friday.
The girls play at 7 p.m. and the boys game will follow.
