SAVANNAH – The Johnson Atomsmashers broke out to an early lead, as Samari Dowdy ran for 302 yards, and the Atomsmashers held on for a 22-21 win over the Liberty County Panthers on Friday night.
Dowdy ran for three scores, and Malon Petty added a field goal for the Atomsmashers, now 4-1 on the season and 2-0 in Region 3-AAA.
Dowdy’s third TD of the game gave Johnson a 22-7 lead midway through the fourth quarter. But the Panthers responded, as Carlos Singleton threw two touchdown passes in the third quarter.
The Panthers, now 2-3 on the season and 0-2 in the region, will host Groves on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at Donell Woods Stadium.
