Panthers place first, second at meet

The Liberty County High School track teams competed at the recent Sandshark Invitational. And the Lady Panthers placed first and the Panthers finished second.

Lady Panther Santana Robinson took first in the 100-meter dash. Asiayna Achane took second in the 200-meter dash and second in the 400-meter hurdles. Te’Jada Smith took second in the 100-meter hurdles.

The Liberty team of Robinson, Achane, Shasanay Mims and Dominique Roberts took third in the 400-meter relay. Roberts also took third in the long jump, while Domonique Rogers took first in the pole vault. Shikara Samuels placed third in the triple jump.

Javonna Johnson placed first in the shot put and Brianea LeBlanc finished third in the event. The two girls placed first and second, respectively, in the discus throw.

Jaleel Gilbert led the boys in the 100-meter dash, finishing in first place. Gilbert and Joshua Ferrell placed first and second, respectively, in the 200-meter dash. Ferrell placed first in the 400-meter dash. Keymiiah Bennett placed second in the 110-meter hurdle. Nick Miller finished third in the 400-meter hurdles. Andrew Stevens finished fifth.

The Panther relay team of Gilbert, Ferrell, Markel Dobbins and Tyvaryon Davidson took second in the 4x100 relay.

Ferrell, Tamaurio Jenkins, Roger Bizzard and Nolan Dickens placed first in the 4x400 relay. Enrika Tolbert placed third in the shot put and first in the discus throw.

The meet was in South Carolina. Track coach Nathan Mims said the meet also featured collegiate athletes. He said his athletes got the benefit of seeing the college level athletes compete.
