Twenty-four teams of girls ages 7-14 are expected at the Georgia Recreation and Parks Association District 2 fast pitch softball tournament here June 23-27. The LCRD estimates there will be 250 players and at least 500 spectators.

And the Liberty County Convention and Visitors Bureau is urging business to showcase products and services during the tourney.

"We’re looking forward to welcoming these visitors," LCCVB CEO Leah Poole said. "Of course, these folks will be looking for places to stay, eat and shop while they’re here. This is an excellent opportunity for our local businesses to present special discounts and coupons for those traveling to attend the tournament."

The Liberty County Recreation Department will host the Georgia Recreation and Parks Association District 2 youth fast pitch softball tournaments in late June.

Located at James Brown Park starting June 23 and ending June 27, the tournaments will comprise of 24 teams of 7-14-year-old girls.

Teams will be from Wayne, Ware, Glynn, Liberty and Camden counties, Richmond Hill and Pooler. Up to 19 games will be played between the four fields at James Brown Park. Liberty County will have a team in each tournament; ages 7-8, 10U, 12U, and 14U.

First and second place teams will advance to state tourneys in Moultrie (7-8), Bainbridge (10U), East Point (11U) and Augusta (14U).

Liberty County’s 10U and 14U teams will play their first games on June 23, while the 7-8 and 12U teams will start on June 24.
