Last week the Long County High School softball team continued to dominate the early part of their season by picking up wins over Islands High School and Glynn Academy by a combined score of 21-2.

On Saturday in Ludowici the Lady Tide faced the Lady Sharks in a double-header. In the early game Trista Murphy went the distance striking out 11 batters while only giving up three hits in the 8-0 shutout. The leading batters for Long County were Jasmine Todd who went 2 for 3 with two singles, Chante Thomas who was 2 for 3 with a single, double and one RBI, Ajmanni Jefferson, who was 2 for 3 with two singles and one RBI, and Bailey Harrison who was 2 for 4 with two singles and an RBI.

In the second game the Lady Sharks did get on the scoreboard but still lost 5-1. In that game the Lady Tide’s Alyssa Swindell went the distance striking out 10 batters while only giving up three hits and one unearned run. The leading batters in the late game were Rylie Poppell, who was 1 for 2 with a double and two walks, Todd, who was 1 for 2 with one RBI, and Jefferson who was 2 for 3 with two singles.

Long County head coach Tyler Chambliss praised his team both on offense and defense.

“It all starts with pitching and defense, we have a high-powered offense that we feel can score runs against anyone. As long as we execute on the defensive side of the ball we feel we can compete with anyone”, said Chambliss.

On Tuesday the Lady Tide traveled over to Brunswick to take on Glynn Academy.

In that game Long County also dominated picking up the win 8-1.

The Lady Tide remain unbeaten through six games having outscored their opponents 49-2. On Tuesday Long County takes on Pierce County (3-3). That game is in Ludowici and begins at 5:30 p.m.
