UGA coach Mak Richt
Few sports figures are more admired in the Peach State than Mark Richt.
Richt’s success as the University of Georgia’s football coach has made him a popular man around Georgia, and also has made him a highly sought after speaker.
However, it is not just his coaching ability that makes him one of Georgia’s favorite citizens, but his devotion to family, country and God.
Richt, a self-described born-again Christian, openly talks about his faith and relationship with Christ. He instills in his players skills and traits to be successful on and off the gridiron.
On Thursday, Richt will be the guest speaker at the 3rd Infantry Division Spiritual Luncheon at Fort Stewart.
The luncheon begins at 11 a.m. at Club Stewart.
The luncheon is one of three events on Thursday that will bid the division headquarters farewell prior to its deployment.
The spiritual luncheon is intended to enhance command camaraderie and spiritual fitness.
In his seven years as Georgia head coach, Richt has elevated Bulldog football into a national powerhouse. From 2002-05, Georgia finished in the top 10 in the country each season.
Richt is one of only nine coaches in Division I history to win 60 games in his first six seasons. His record in seven seasons as the Bulldogs’ head coach is 70-21.
