The Long County Super Smash Bros. Ultimate team wrapped up their inaugural season on Wednesday, April 6, by playing their final match of the regular season. They faced off against the Westminster Wildcats, one of the best teams in the state, and fell by a score of 4-1.
Patrick McClennon jumped on first and used his Ludwig main to take on a Bayonetta main. Bayonetta was introduced in Super Smash Bros. 4 on the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS and is from her own titular series.
Bayonetta uses a vast array of aerial strikes and did that well in Game 1, getting Ludwig to 170 damage and taking on 76 before taking the first stock. McClennon took 91 damage before evening e Sports
the score at two apiece.
Bayonetta took Ludwig’s second stock before he came back down to even the score at one stock with just 35 damage. It was a close battle for the last stock, but it was Bayonetta that took the first game.
She jumped out to an early lead, dealing 60 damage before even taking a hit and dealt 66 damage for the first stock. Ludwig ended up taking 147 damage on his second stock, but was able to take Bayonetta’s first stock and took the second at 190 damage, taking his first lead of the match.
His momentum was too much for Bayonetta to overcome as he took the second game 1-0. The third game was all Bayonetta, however, as she took just 57 damage before taking two of McClennon’s stocks.
Ludwig was able to take down one of her stocks, but in the end it was a loss for McClennon as he lost 2-0.
Jimmy Barreto jumped on with his Isabelle main to take on Cloud from the Final Fantasy franchise. Cloud took an early 3-1 advantage, taking just 94 damage in the process.
Isabelle was just able to avoid getting three stocked, getting a zero death for Cloud’s first stock. Barreto took Cloud’s second stock at 132 damage to even the score, but was not able to overcome the early lead, falling 1-0.
Barreto made an early mistake in the second game, taking a self-destruct death with 66 damage on Cloud. He evened the score at 46 damage and took the 2-1 lead at 120 damage.
Cloud was able to even the score again with just 18 damage and was able to use his aerial attacks and a kill screen to get the final blow and win the game 1-0.
Splash Smash falls to 4-3 to close out the regular season and now await their playoff fate. They entered the final week ranked 47 in the state and need to be in the top 64 to make the playoffs.
The team will be off next week for spring break and the playoffs begin Monday, April 18.
