Georgia Southern outfielder Hunter Thomas was named to the Valley Baseball League all-league second team as announced by the summer collegiate-baseball league.
Thomas batted .352 with one home run and 16 RBIs in 38 games. He was selected to the league’s All-Star game and helped lead the Staunton (Virginia) Braves to the Valley League playoffs.
He was named the co-player of the week on June 15.
Last season as a junior, Thomas batted .257 and had a .382 on-base percentage in 25 games for the Eagles, according to gseagles.com
First football scrimmage set for Saturday
The first scrimmage of the 2014 preseason will take place at approximately 9:40 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 9, at Paulson Stadium, which will also be the first time the Eagles will don full pads this preseason.
Georgia Southern’s practices are open to Eagle fans, but any filming, recording or photography is limited to members of the media only.
