Long County played well Friday but fell to Claxton, 33-20, in a scrimmage in Ludowici. The Blue Tide open their regular season Aug. 29 by hosting Tattnall County.

The Long County High School football team fell, 33-20, to Claxton on Friday in a preseason scrimmage in Ludowici.
The Tigers came out strong, holding a 13-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.
The Blue Tide fought back and made the score 19-14 at the break.
In the second half, the game went back and forth, with both teams playing well at times, but Claxton held on to win.
Brendon Scott was the leading rusher for the Blue Tide with more than 100 yards. Long County quarterback Brett Blake was 6-for-9 passing for 104 yards.
The Tide have two weeks to prepare for their first real game when they host Tattnall County on Aug. 29. Last year, the Battle Creek Warriors finished with a 4-6 record.
The gap between the Blue Tide and the Warriors has narrowed in recent years.
The game will be a “blackout” night, with all Blue Tide fans encouraged to wear black.
