Bradwell Institute’s soccer team hoped to make more history Wednesday in Warner Robins, but Houston County had other plans.
The Tigers ran into a buzzsaw, losing 4-1 to the Bears in the second round of the GHSA Class AAAAA state playoffs.
Houston County advances to the quarterfinals for the third consecutive year, where they will host No. 2 Harrison High School on  Saturday.
The game was tied at one at the half, with freshman Chris “Prince” Schuster scoring for the Tigers.
The Bears, however, played aggressive all night, pelting BI senior goalkeeper Michael Griffin with 36 shots.
The Bears turned up the heat in the second half, scoring three goals and preventing the Tigers from finding any rhythm.
Despite the loss, the Tigers had a successful season.
The Tigers exceeded expectations this season, finishing second in Region 3-AAAAA at 11-3 and advancing to the state playoffs for the first time since 2002.
The Tigers graduated several seniors off last year’s team and were considered by teams in the region to be in a re-building year.
