Bradwell Institute’s basketball teams were in Darien Saturday afternoon with the girls and boys taking wins on the hardwood.
The Lady Tigers beat McIntosh County Academy 50-37. The Tiger boys won 46-30.
In the boys game, head coach Rhett Hellgren said Deion Stewart played well, leading the team in rebounds with 11 and scoring eight points in the matchup.
Hellgren said Justin James, known as JJ, really helped the Tigers’ inside game.“We are going to need him to continue to improve,” the coach said.
Hellgren said the team will keep working hard in practice.
“It carries over to the game,” he said.
The coach added that the players also need to work on their free throws as the season continues.
“We were 8 for 22 from the foul line,” against MCA, he noted. “We work on it in practice. We just don’t see the results in the games.”
The Lady Tigers are 8-6 overall and 1-3 in Region 3-AAAAA. The Tiger boys are 5-8 overall and 1-3 in region action. The Tiger teams will host Brunswick in region games Friday. The Lady Tigers tip off at 7 p.m.
They travel to Camden County on Saturday.
“We have some tough competition coming up ,and it is going to be very difficult task for us this weekend,” Hellgren said about the two upcoming games, noting that Brunswick is the defending state champion and Camden is currently undefeated.
