Traveling baseball teams gearing up

The spring baseball season is coming fast and the Liberty County Thunder and the Barracudas will host tryouts Saturday for traveling baseball teams.

Tryouts are to begin at 11 a.m. at the baseball fields at Liberty Independent Troop Park. Interested players between the ages of 9-16 should bring equipment they’ll need and be ready to show their best.

Youth baseball encourages teamwork, dedication, and determination, organizers said. The benefits of traveling baseball teams include more in-depth work on fundamentals with knowledgeable coaches, lots of specialized training, increased field experience and the chance to play ball in different locations in Georgia.

The cost of being on a traveling team is roughly $150 per child to cover uniforms and insurance coverage. Additional fees include the cost of hotel rooms, although every effort is made to get group discount rates and transportation.

Parents interested in having their children tryout should bring a copy of the child’s birth certificate with them on Saturday. For more information call Joel Blanks at 977-1735.
