Two-sport athlete Giron signs with Middle Georgia

Madison Giron

The Long County Blue Tide have their second athlete to sign a collegiate athletic scholarship. After Trista Murphy signed to play softball at Fort Valley State University, Madison Giron has made the decision to stay in her home state of Georgia as well.

Giron, who starred on the Lady Tide softball team for three years and looks to be a big part of the Lady Tide soccer team in the 2021 season, signed a scholarship to play both sports at Middle Georgia State University in Macon. Her signing happened on Saturday, September 6, following her helping the Lady Blue Tide basketball team defeat Appling County 57-26.

Giron has been a big part of both the softball and soccer teams the last few seasons for the Lady Tide, but has also excelled on travel ball teams, which her mother Nicole said she has been playing for years.

“She has been playing soccer and softball since she could walk,” her mother said at the signing on Saturday. Her mother described Giron as “high-strung but dedicated” and said that it led to having the opportunity to play both sports at the collegiate level.

Giron has been a leader for the Lady Tide soccer team, excelling as a tough offensive player from the striker and midfielder positions. She led the Lady Tide to a 4-3 record, scoring eight of the team’s 32 goals, last year before the COVID-19 pandemic cut their season short.

The Middle Georgia Knights’ softball team was 6-10 last season before their season was cut short and are currently 0-2 in 2021 with the season just getting underway last week. The soccer team went 12-7-1 in the 2019 season, falling in the first round of the NAIA National Tournament,  and is currently 1-1-1 this year.

Giron has been a huge part of the Lady Blue Tide and they are certainly proud of her accomplishments as she moves on to the next stage of her athletic career.
