It was as close as the Bradwell Tigers have come to victory in a year.
But a few too many mistakes — and Jenkins’ Wing-T attack — extended the Tigers’ losing streak and ended any hopes of a playoff berth.
Tyler Ferguson’s 12yard touchdown run with 1:57 to go in the game sealed the win for the Warriors, who improved to 3-6 on the year and 2-2 in the region, securing a playoff berth for the Warriors.
Bradwell trailed from Jenkins’ opening possession, which ended with a Jayaun Albert 11-yard touchdown run. They got back in it on the strength of two Treshaun Peggis touchdown runs, both 80 yards long.
The Tigers trailed 17-0 when Peggis took the handoff and shot down the right sideline, outracing the Jenkins defense with 2:13 left in the first half.
He repeated the feat on the first play of the second half for the Tigers, this time going down the left sideline, to bring the Tigers within 17-14.
And Bradwell was in position to score again as the Tigers turned the tables on their opponents on Jabarri Neal’s blocked punt. The Tigers took over at the 33, but a holding penalty wiped out a Peggis run for a first down, and the Tigers turned the ball over on downs with 8:20 to go.
The Warriors converted a third down and a fourth down on the drive before Ferguson ended it with his TD run.
Jenkins also got a 2-yard touchdown run from quarterback Jeremiah James and a 37-yard field goal from John Seidensticker.
Bradwell threatened on its opening drive of the game, reaching the Warriors 6, but Jenkins blocked a field goal try.
The Warriors rolled up 324 yards rushing on the night and finished with 379 total yards. Bradwell had 283 yards of offense. Jenkins was 4 of 10 on third-down conversions and picked up two of three fourth-down tries.
But aside from Peggis’ bolt to start the second half, the Tigers only chalked up 30 yards of total offense for the rest of the second half.
A win over Jenkins — and a win this week over winless Greenbrier — would have made the Tigers the No. 4 seed in Region 1-AAAAA. Instead, the loss also was the 30th consecutive defeat for Bradwell, a streak stretching back to October 25, 2019.
The Tigers will conclude the 2022 campaign Friday.
