Airman Dalesha McGriff finished basic training.
Atlanta — The following students made the Dean’s List for fall semester 2006 at the Georgia Institute of Technology: Vanessa Ibeliz Galloza, John Michael Kroger and Gary Christopher Mann; all of Hinesville.
Undergraduate students earning a 3.00 or higher academic average for the quarter gain the distinction of being named to the Dean’s List at Georgia Tech.

Two young people with ties to Liberty County have graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.
• Air Force Airman Steven W. Blake is the son of Sonja Blake of Hinesville and a 2004 graduate of Bradwell Institute.
• Air Force Airman 1st Class Latavis D. Johnson is the son of Shirley Humphries of Hinesville and Tracy Johnson of Statesboro. He is a 2006 graduate of Bradwell Institute.
During the six weeks of training, the airmen studied the Air Force mission, organization, and military customs and courtesies; performed drill and ceremony marches, and received physical training, rifle marksmanship, field training exercises.
In addition, airmen who complete basic training earn credits toward an associate degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

Army Staff Sgt. Renata A. Goode has been nominated to compete in the TACOM Life Cycle Management Command Noncommissioned Officer of the Year Board.
Selection was based on the individual’s exemplary duty performance, job knowledge, leadership qualities, significant self-improvement, specific achievements, notable accomplishments, and community service and support.
Goode, a logistics staff specialist, is assigned to Rock Island Arsenal, Ill. She has served in the military for eight years.
Her parents are Darrell and Charlene G. Taste of Hinesville.

Army Reserve Pvt. Jonathan E. McGahee has graduated from basic infantry training at Fort Benning, Columbus.
During the nine weeks of training, the soldier received training in drill and ceremonies, weapons, map reading, tactics, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid, and Army history, core values and traditions.
Additional training included development of basic combat skills and battlefield operations and tactics, and experiencing use of various weapons and weapons defenses available to the infantry crewman.
McGahee is the son of Gregory McGahee of Ludowici and Sheri Hendrix of Statesboro. The private is a 2003 graduate of Trinity Christian School, Statesboro.
