Alyssa and Ashton Dunbar made their debut Sept. 24, at Memorial Medical Center in Savannah, Alyssa, at 4:23 p.m. and weighing 6 pounds, 13 ounces; officially an older sister to Ashton, who appeared at 4:36 p.m., weighing 7 pounds, 1 ounce.
Mom Shelnatta Dunbar wasn’t due until Oct. 13, but the newborns were eager to meet the world. Her husband, Army Maj. Richard Dunbar welcomed the twins in the delivery room. The couple, stationed at Fort Stewart, is part of the 3rd Infantry Division.
Alyssa and Ashton have two older brothers, Rashard Dunbar, 18 months, and 15-year-old Brandon Alexander.
The babies’ names were chosen a couple days after delivery. Mom chose Alyssa and Dad chose Ashton.
“My wife and I had a difficult time agreeing on the names, but I’m just glad things went well and my family is in good health,” Dunbar said. The family will introduce the babies to family and friends in their hometown of Leland, Miss., at Christmas.
