Cheerleading showcase Saturday

The public is invited to the free, second annual Fort Stewart Cheerleading Showcase on Feb. 22 at 1 p.m.

The showcase will be at the Youth Sports and Fitness Center. Youth Sports cheer squads will entertain with what learned during the basketball season.

Skeet/trap shoot

The quarterly 50-bird skeet shoot will be from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. Feb. 22 at the Skeet and Trap Range 8332 on Fort Stewart.

At least four shooters are required in each division (novice, intermediate, expert, ladies/youth, trap). Cash prizes will be awarded based on number of entries.

Lunch will be provided.

The cost is $25 per person (skeet or trap, 50 birds) or $40 (both events, 100 birds). It is open to all military ID Cardholders. Register that day or at Outdoor Recreation Center, 435-8205, or Shooting Sports Office, 435-9303.

CG's golf scramble

All 18 holes of Maj. Gen. Murray’s Golf Scramble Feb. 28 at Taylors Creek Golf Course will be played as Par 3s.

Play begins at noon. The $35 per person cost includes golf cart fees, range balls and prizes. Sign up until Feb. 28. Size of the field will determine prize distribution.

Bistro Night

Friday night is Bistro Night in Club Stewart's Thunder Run.

A four-course meal costs $10.95 for adults and $6.95 for children ages 3-10. Children 2 and under eat free.

Shamrock Run

Run or walk the 5K or 1.5-mile course during Hunter’s Shamrock Family Fun Run at 10 a.m. March 1.

The first 100 participants (12 and older) who sign up and complete the run on Stephen Douglas/Perimeter roads will receive a T-shirt. 

Registration is free. Late registration can be completed at the starting point.

Although the event isn’t competitive, a clock will be set.

Range shooting

Soldiers, retirees, Army civilians and guests can sight-in large caliber weapons March 1 from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at Red Cloud Range Complex-Echo, off Highway 119.

Bring your rifles and muzzle loaders of any caliber. Targets are at 100 to 1,000 meters. The cost is $10 per two-hour block/person. Register at the Pass and Permit Office or onsite.

Soccer league

Companies wanting to play soccer and prove who is the best on Fort Stewart or Hunter should submit a memo to the Bennett Sports Complex on Stewart or Squires Sports Complex at Hunter by March 3.

Play begins March 10, with games at 6 and 7 p.m. at the Sports Annex on Stewart or Squires Sports Complex at Hunter.

Camp with BOSS

Join BOSS for a Single Soldier Retreat of fishing, hiking, swimming and everything else Coffee County State Park in Nicholls has to offer March 7-9.

Bass tournament

A catch and release bass tournament will begin at 6:30 a.m. March 15 at Fort Stewart's Pineview Lake.

Prizes are $250 for first-place and $100 for the largest bass. Door prizes will be awarded. 

Anglers can fish from the bank or launch a bass boat, trolling motors only. No live bait will be permitted.

Participants must have proper fishing permits. Fees vary and are based on registration.

The tournament is open everyone, even civilians.

Color run

Registration is open for an Extreme Color Run April 5 through the Holbrook Outdoor Recreation Area.

The untimed event takes runners approximately five kilometers through Holbrook’s campground and tank trails. Runners will be “colored” as they pass different color stations the length of the run.

The run begins at 9 a.m.

Volunteers are needed to help prepare for the run. To volunteer, or for more information, call 912-767-6212.

Runner fees are $20 per person until March 24 and $30 later.

 

3-on-3 basketball

Newman Fitness Center on Fort Stewart will host a 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament March 25-27. A minimum of 10 teams is needed.

The half-court, double elimination, self-officiated contest will have a running clock. The winning team will get $300.

The tournament is open to all DOD cardholders and guests 17 and older. Register at Newman Fitness Center. Entry fee is $30 per team. Registration ends March 10.

Lt. Dan Band Concert

Gary Sinise and the Lt. Dan Band will be in concert at 5 p.m. April 6 at Donovan Field.

The free concert is presented by the USO in partnership with the Gary Sinise Foundation. Those attending are asked to bring their own seating, if desired.

Pets, smoking, grills, coolers, glass bottles and weapons are prohibited. Vendors will be on-site.

 

Power lifting

Find out if you are the best in power lifting or bench press on April 12 in “The Rock” Power Lifting and Bench Press Competition at Newman Fitness Center. Weigh-in begins at 8:30 a.m. and the competition at 10:15.

Contestants will be placed in one of 11 weight classes and must complete a bench press to qualify for an award. Each competitor will attempt three lifts. The highest overall weight lifted will determine the winners.

Registration fee until March 28 is $10, then $15 until April 12.

Challenges, joys of reintegration

Registration is under way for a one-day “The Journey from ‘Welcome Home’ to Now: Reunion, Reconnecting, Routine” course.

Space is limited for the training, presented by The Military Child Education Coalition. The course runs 8 a.m.-4 p.m. March 28 at the Liberty College and Career Academy in Hinesville.

Professionals who support military-connected children and youth will learn about the challenges and joys children face following a family member’s return after an extended absence. Participants will learn strategies to help students adjust and the journey of reconnecting and reestablishing family routine.

There is no cost.

Pet services

A construction project has been delayed, allowing Fort Stewart's Pet Boarding Facility to continue offering full boarding services and accommodating dogs of all sizes.

Once construction begins, boarding services will be limited to dogs 20 pounds and below, and no cats. Construction will not affect daycare and grooming.

Indoor cycling

Indoor cycling classes are offered Mondays from 5-6 p.m. and Thursdays from 4:30-5:30 p.m. at 4th IBCT Fitness Center. 

The classes improve cardiovascular endurance and promote healthy weight loss. There is a $3 fee per class. Space is limited.
