Take a hayride in a holiday wonderland

Holiday lights will transform Holbrook Pond Recreation Area off Highway 144 into a holiday wonderland for family fun and hayrides Dec. 13-14. The hayrides begin at 6 each evening.

There will also be horse rides, a movie, kiddie train rides, s’mores and more. Plus, Santa and Mrs. Claus will visit with children.

Children and parents can enjoy the hayrides together. The 15- to 20-minute rides wind through a trail decorated with Christmas and holiday scenes.

The hayride costs $1 per person. Children 2 and younger are free.

The light display will remain until Dec. 26. Visitors are invited to drive through, at no charge, from 6-9 p.m.

 

Trees for Troops

Donated Christmas trees will be given to soldiers and their families on a first-come basis starting at 9 a.m. Dec. 14 at Newman Fitness Center and Hunter Club.

BOSS soldiers will help with selections and prepare trees for transport home. Military ID cards are required.

This is the eighth year the Christmas Spirit Foundation and FedEx have provided trees.

Single-parent laser tag

Play laser tag with your children from 3-6 p.m. Dec. 15 at Corkan Family Fun Center. The cost is $2 per person. For more information, call 912-767-4273.

 

Bowl with Santa

Bowl with Santa from 3:30-6 p.m. Dec. 15 at Marne Bowling Center. Admission is free, and kids younger than 18 years will receive a gift and can bowl for $1 per game. Bring your camera for photos with Santa.

Jaguars vs. Titans

Register by Dec. 16 for a Leisure Travel trip to watch Jacksonville battle Tennessee in Jacksonville on Dec. 22.

Seating is on a first-come basis. The $85 per person cost includes transportation and game admission.

Teen skating

Teens, check out skate night just for you, from 6-9 p.m. Dec. 20 at Corkan Family Fun Center.

The jukebox is loud and the building is decorated for the holidays. The cost is $5 per couple and $3 per single.

Wildlife photos

Stewart/Hunter amateur photographers with military ID cards are invited to submit wildlife-themed photos for a photo contest.

Submissions will be accepted until Dec. 31 at the Pass and Permit Office.

Fees are $15 (18 and older), $10 (16-17) and $5 (15 and younger). Judging and presentation of awards will be later. Age groups with fewer than five entries will receive certificates instead of cash prizes.

Babysitting course

Teens can become certified babysitters at the SKIES CYSitters Teenage Babysitter Course from 9:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Jan. 2 and 3.

The course is free and will be at SKIES Unlimited on Davis Avenue, across from Diamond Elementary.

Youth will learn basic child care skills and get certified in first aid and CPR. Participants must attend both days to become certified.

Shotgun orientation

A Youth First Steps Shotgun Orientation Class to introduce firearms safety, handling and shooting skills, will be from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Jan. 11 at Holbrook Pond Recreation Area.

Classroom training will be from 8-noon. Range time will be from 1-3 p.m. Shotguns, ammo and training material will be provided. Participants may bring their own shotgun.

The cost is $30 per person. The maximum class size is 15.

New Year’s Eve

Welcome 2014 at the New Year's Eve Extravaganza at Club Stewart’s Ballroom and Thunder Run.

The extravaganza, from 9 p.m.-1 a.m., features live entertainment by 3rd Class Citizens, plus DJ Freak Show playing old school hits.

Tickets are $20 in advance or $30 at door. They are on sale at Club Stewart and Leisure Travel. 

The price includes a midnight champagne toast, party hats, favors and a balloon drop. Food items for sale will include wings, samplers and breakfast in a cup. 

The Tow-2-Go program will be available as safe and confidential option for returning home (within a 10 mile radius). It will be available to AAA members and non-members. The Club also will post local taxi cab telephone numbers.

Ladies on Links

A free Ladies on the Links clinic, 9-11 a.m. Jan. 11, covers various aspects of the game, from rules to swing and putting mechanics.
