Tropical Storm Chantal petered out Wednesday night.
The National Hurricane Center ended reports on the weather system at 5 p.m. Wednesday after Air Force Hurricane Hunter planes reported that it was no longer a closed circulation.
"Global models show strong wind shear in the area...where the remnants of Chantal are headed. This will probably inhibit any re-development," the center's report said.
It doesn't mean that there will not be any rain in our area. Forecasts say the storm's remnants could still make it over our area and that would be after a cold front is expected to move across the state today, coaxing rain out of our moist air.
Both Accuweather and the Weather Channel are predicting rain and thunderstorms tonight through Saturday.
